Transit Investment for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) Grant Awards (posted September 22, 2009)

On September 21, the Department of Transportation awarded $100 million through the Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) program, a discretionary grant program to support transit capital projects that reduce greenhouse  gas emissions and energy consumption. Small Shipyard Grants Awarded (posted August 27, 2009)

On August 18, 2009, the Department of Transportation announced that it would award $98 million to 70 improvement projects at small shipyards throughout the country.  This announcement expends all the stimulus funding made available through the Assistance to Small Shipyards program.

DOT Updates TIGER Guidance (posted June 22, 2009)

On June 17, 2009, the Department of Transportation updated its Federal Register Notice on the TIGER stimulus program.  This update incorporates public comments received by DOT to clarify the guidelines of the TIGER program.

DOT Guidance on High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail Available (posted June 18. 2009)

On June 17, 2009, the Department of Transportation (DOT) released guidelines for the High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail Program funded by the stimulus.  Approximately $8 billion is available through competitive grants for state governments to develop high-speed rail corridors that will ease traffic congestion and reduce pollution.  Comments on the guidance will be accepted until July 10, 2009.  Applications for Service Development Programs are due on October 2, 2009, and all other project applications are due on August 24, 2009.

Transit Security Grants Available (posted June 1, 2009)

On May 29, 2009, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced the availability of stimulus funds through the Transit Security Grant Program (TSGP).  A total of $150 million is available to public transit agencies that have met previously established Department of Homeland Security requirements.  In order to be eligible for the TSGP, transit agencies must have either undergone a security assessment conducted by DHS or developed and/or updated their security plan within the last three years.  Funding can be used for a variety of security improvements, including hiring additional security personnel and making security enhancing capital improvements.  Applications for Operational Packages must be completed by June 15, 2009, while applications for Capital Projects are due by June 29, 2009.

FEMA Announces Grants for Port Security (posted June 1, 2009)

On May 29, 2009, the Federal Emergency Management Agency released application instructions for its stimulus Port Security Grant Program.  A total of $150 million is available to port authorities and other entities through this program, with ports determined to be at the highest risk eligible for greater levels of funding.  Applications must be submitted by June 29, 2009.

FTA Allocates New Start Program Funds(posted May 20, 2009)

On May 11, 2009, the Federal Transit Administration released allocations for its Capital Investment Grants Program.  This program received $750 million in the stimulus, which will be distributed to 11 New Start projects.

On May 18, 2009, the Department of Transportation (DOT) published initial guidance for its new Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Discretionary Grants Program in the Federal Register.  The stimulus provided $1.5 billion for TIGER, which will be awarded to State and local governments for capital investments in highway or bridge projects, public transportation projects, passenger and freight rail, and port infrastructure investments.  Applications must be submitted by September 15, 2009.  Comments on program guidelines must be submitted to DOT by June 1, 2009.

DOT to Solicit Applications for TIGER Grants (posted May 15, 2009)

On Monday, May 18, 2009, the Department of Transportation (DOT) will publish guidelines for its new Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Discretionary Grants Program.  The stimulus provided $1.5 billion for TIGER, which will be awarded to State and local governments for capital investments in highway or bridge projects, public transportation projects, passenger and freight rail, and port infrastructure investments.  Applications must be submitted by September 15, 2009. DOT intends to fund transportation projects ranging from $20 million - $300 million, but the minimum project amount can be waived.

FAA Announces Projects to Receive Funding for Facilities and Equipment (posted May 5, 2009)

On May 1, 2009, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released a list of projects that will receive funding under the Facilities and Equipment program.  The stimulus designated $200 million for this program, but the specific level of funding allocated to each project is not yet available.

High-Speed Rail Strategy Announced (posted April 17, 2009)

On April 16, 2009, President Obama released a strategic plan outlining his vision for a high-speed rail system.  This system will initially be funded by $8 billion in stimulus money, along with $1 billion a year from the federal budget for the next five years.  The Federal Railroad Administration plans to solicit applications for this funding in the near future, and to begin awarding grants by late summer.

Ferry Boat Discretionary Applications Solicited (posted April 15, 2009)

On March 30, 2009, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) began soliciting applications for projects under the Ferry Boat Discretionary program.  Only State Departments of Transportation are eligible to submit project proposals to Washington.  Applications must be completed by May 15, 2009.

FTA Publishes Preliminary Section 1512 Reporting Forms (posted April 9, 2009)

On April 8, 2009, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) published proposed forms and reporting instructions for the Section 1512 quarterly reports that must be submitted by all entities receiving stimulus funding from FTA or any other Federal agency.  Comments on these documents will be accepted until May 1, 2009.

FHWA Publishes Stimulus Calendar of Events (posted April 2, 2009)

On March 26th, 2009, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) released a calendar detailing how the agency will disburse and monitor stimulus funds.  The timeline, stretching from February 2009 to October 2012, specifies the dates on which the FHWA will release reports on its use of stimulus funds.

House Committee Requests Additional Information for Stimulus Projects (posted April 2, 2009)

On February 27, 2009, Chairman James Oberstar of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure wrote to State Governors, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, and Transit Authorities, to request that they provide certification, transparency and accountability information on certain transportation and infrastructure programs funded by the stimulus.  This request goes beyond the transparency and accountability provisions within the text of the stimulus.  Entities who have received letters are expected to submit the requested information by April 4, 2009.

FAA Airport Improvement Program Grantees Announced (posted March 30, 2009)

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has revealed the first batch of projects that it will support with stimulus funding provided under the Airport Improvement Program. Of the $1.1 billion in funding for this program, over 50% has been allocated to these projects, and the rest will be allocated at a later date.

FTA Opens Applications for TIGGER Grants (posted March 24, 2009)

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has published application instructions for the new Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) grant program in the Federal Register. This program will distribute $100 million in stimulus funds to public transportation agencies for investments that reduce energy consumption or greenhouse gas emissions. Grants will be awarded discretionarily, and the deadline for applications is May 22, 2009.

Application for Tribal Transit Funds Solicited (posted March 24, 2009)

On March 23, 2009, the Federal Transit Administration announced the availability of $17 million in stimulus funds for the Public Transportation on Indian Reservations Program. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis to eligible Indian tribes and applications must be received by May 22, 2009.

Federal Transit Funding Apportioned (posted March 6, 2009)

On March 5, 2009, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) published a Notice in the Federal Register apportioning $8.4 billion in transportation infrastructure stimulus funding. These funds are distributed among States, selected urban areas, and discretionary grant programs. The FTA must obligate at least 50% of funds by September 1, 2009.

Highway Infrastructure Funding Apportioned (posted March 4, 2009)

On March 2, 2009, the Federal Highway Administration published a Notice in the Federal Register apportioning Highway Infrastructure stimulus funding. The tables below detail how much funding is being apportioned to States and how much is being sub-allocated.

Maritime Administration Releases Notice for Shipyard Grants

$100 million was included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the Small Shipyards Grant Program. The Maritime Administration will distribute this funding through a competitive grant process. Of the $100 million, $75 million is reserved for shipyards with 600 employees or less and up to $25 million may be awarded to yards with up to 1200 employees.  Applications must be received by the Maritime Administration by 5 p.m. EST on April 20, 2009.
