$80 Million Available for Community Colleges to Train Healthcare IT Workers (posted November 25, 2009)
On November 24, 2009, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the availability of $80 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to develop and strengthen the health information technology (health IT) workforce. Of this funding, $70 million will be awarded in the form of cooperative agreements to community college to create or expand training programs for health IT professionals, while the remaining $10 million will be used to develop educational materials to support these training programs. Cooperative agreements will be awarded on a regional basis, to consortia that serve one of five regions identified by HHS. To be eligible, each consortium must be composed of institutes of higher education, and must provide a list of community colleges in the region that will be subgrantees. Applications for this program are due on January 22, 2010.

NIST Accepts Applications for Research Construction Grants (posted June 2, 2009)
On May 27, 2009, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) began accepting applications for its Research Construction Grant Program. Approximately $120 million is available through this program for institutions of higher education or nonprofit organizations to build or expand scientific research buildings. Applicants must submit a Letter of Intent by June 25, 2009, and a complete application by August 10, 2009.

On April 13, 2009, the Department of Education announced the availability of $108.8 million in Impact Aid Construction and Homeless Children and Youth grants. These funds are distributed to States and qualified school districts by formula.

Applications for Education State Stabilization Funds Released (posted April 2, 2009)
On April 1, 2009, the Department of Education issued guidelines and application instructions for $32.6 billion in stimulus money available for State Stabilization Funds. Once these funds have been awarded, States will be able to apply for another $13.1 billion in stabilization funds, as well as $5 billion in competitive “Race to the Top” grants.

Department of Education Releases Half of IDEA Funds to States (posted April 2, 2009)
On April 1, 2009, the Department of Education awarded 50% of stimulus funds for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Parts B and C to State agencies. The remaining 50% will be released by September 30, 2009.

Department of Education Awards Rehabilitation Act Funds (posted April 2, 2009)
On April 1, 2009, the Department of Education awarded all available Vocational State Grant, State Independent Living Grant, and Independent Living Service to Older Individuals Who Are Blind Grant stimulus funds to State agencies. These programs, authorized by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, were awarded automatically to States based on prior allocations.

Department of Education To Release $44 Billion in Stimulus Funds (posted March 10, 2009)
On March 7, 2009, the Department of Education announced that plans to make $44 billion in stimulus funds available to States within 30-45 days. This includes 67% of State Fiscal Stabilization funds, 50% of Title I, Part A funds, and 50% of Individuals with Disabilities Education act (IDEA) funds apportioned by the stimulus. NEA Announces Recovery Grants to Support Jobs in the Arts

On March 5, 2009, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) released its guidelines for applying for arts funds included in the economic stimulus legislation. The economic stimulus legislation includes $50 million to support jobs in the arts through grants administered by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Grant applications are due April 2, 2009, and grant awards will be made as early as July 1, 2009. Direct grants from NEA are available to arts organizations for $25,000 or $50,000, with no matching requirement. Arts organizations are eligible to receive direct grants if the have received a direct grant from NEA within the last four years. State, regional, and designated local arts agencies that sub-grant federal funds can receive $100,000 or $250,000, and again, there is no matching requirement.
