TFG Partner Helps Choose National Smart Growth Award Winners

National Award For Smart Growth Achievement

TFG Partner Matt Ward was selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to sit on a panel of national experts selected to judge applications for the annual “National Award for Smart Growth Achievement.”  The Smart Growth Award recognizes communities that use the principles of smart growth to create better places. Through the award, EPA seeks to recognize and support public entities (from cities to state governments and the many types of public entities in-between) that promote and achieve smart growth, while at the same time bringing about direct and indirect environmental benefits.  Smart growth development practices support national environmental goals by preserving open spaces and parkland and protecting critical habitat; improving transportation choices, including walking, bicycling, and transit, which reduces emissions from automobiles; promoting brownfield redevelopment; and reducing impervious surfaces, which improves water quality.  The 2009 awards will recognize winners in Overall Achievement in Smart Growth, Smart Growth Streets, Built Projects, Green Buildings & Smart Growth, and Policies & Regulations.  The award winners will be announced in December 2009.

TFG provides government affairs and strategic counseling to local governments and the private sector to pursue smart growth revitalization strategies.  TFG supports clients and coalitions on brownfields redevelopment, waterfront revitalization, mixed-use development, green buildings, green infrastructure, parks and recreational development, and other smart growth approaches.
