Support Dedicated Funding of Land and Water Conservation Fund
The House Natural Resources and the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committees may soon consider oil and gas reform legislation, and as part of that are considering provisions for full and dedicated funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). As part of that legislation there are also discussions related to providing full and dedicated funding for the LWCF. It appears, however, that the provision may not specify equal funding for the State Assistance program, leaving annual funding subject to the discretion of the Administration in office at that time. We believe funding for the State Assistance program should be guaranteed to equal that of the Federal program and not subjective to the annual appropriations process or the discretion of the Administration. President Signs Stimulus Plan
On Tuesday, February 17th, President Barack Obama signed into law H.R. 1, the American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This $787.2 billion measure is the largest single infusion of spending
($575.3 billion) and tax cuts ($211.9 billion) into the economy in American history. In an effort to stimulate economic growth and create jobs, the measure contains funding for more than 75 federal programs, many of which will benefit local governments. Certain programs will provide funding directly to local governments through already established formulas or procedures, whereas with other programs, the federal agencies will host a grant competition for stimulus dollars. To help navigate this process, The Ferguson Group (TFG) has put together a comprehensive analysis of this bill that provides details on the majority of programs funded by this legislation and tips on how to access those funds. Visit our Stimulus Update page regularly for important stimulus news.
