Successful Advocacy

Requirements of Successful Advocacy

Our bipartisan professionals have served as staff to key members of Congress from both political parties.  Our expertise in the substance, process, and culture of Capitol Hill is the foundation of our consistently successful advocacy efforts. Using that foundation, we continue to meet the three basic requirements of successful advocacy:

    • Solid comprehension of the facts and issues.
    • Clear communication of the facts and issues.
    • Credibility among decision-making legislators, staff, and agency officials.

Lobbying on a Two-Way Street

Lobbying is a two-way street. In one direction, we educate federal decision makers on a client's specific objectives and garner their support. In the other, we educate clients about the legislative and appropriations processes. By keeping our clients informed and involved, we help them become their own best advocates.

To smooth the road and reach our goals as quickly as possible, we build a relationship between the client and federal decision makers through strategic counsel and planning, open communication of up-to-date information, and advocacy through active participation in Congressional, Administrative, and stakeholder activities on the client's behalf.

Arriving With Results

The results of our advocacy efforts speak for themselves. Here are some examples:

    • Securing a quarter of a billion dollars for our clients in each of the past three fiscal years.
    • Securing over $330 million in the FY 2006 House TEA-21 bill.
    • Working with the Department of Homeland Security to secure close to $120 million for TFG clients since the Department’s inception in FY 2003.
    • Successful transfers and reuse of military bases including handling issues such as an undisclosed landfill, renegotiation of original sales agreements, and a host of regulatory issues that required interaction with federal agencies and passage of numerous pieces of authorizing and appropriating legislation.
    • Instigating successful resolution of Endangered Species Act matters by acting as liaison between the client, Congress, and the Administration.
    • Preparing clients to deliver testimony, including drafting testimony and training clients how to handle hostile questioning.
    • Providing a platform for Congress and the Administration to enact legislative and regulatory changes resulting in the creation of new, innovative financing under US DOT’s Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) program.
    • Arranging congressional tours of clients’ projects.
